Disease burden contributed by dietary exposure to aflatoxins in a mountainous city in Southwest China

Introduction Aflatoxins (AFT) identified as a Group 1 human carcinogen naturally contaminate various types of food and could increase the risk hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through dietary intake. Chongqing municipality is located in Southwest China with subtropical monsoon climate which conducive to AFT contamination crops. However, burden HCC caused by exposure population has not been quantified. Methods The was estimated terms Disability Adjusted Life Year (DALY) using FDA-iRISK software. Dietary three categories including grain its products, nuts seeds, spices assessed. Results lifetime average daily dose (LADD) for ranged from 2.40 8.25 ng/kg bw/day 9.51 15.10 at mean heavy (P95) levels, respectively. Among categories, products contributed most population. DALYs related induced were 162,000–556,000 641,000-1,020,000; DALY rates 6.47–22.20 25.59–40.72 per 100,000 persons year; attribution fractions (PAF) 1.68–5.78% 6.66–10.60%. Discussion Although be relatively low among population, overall health might underestimated owing uncertainties this dataset. Thus, associated intake should still concern further studies.
